- For medical emergencies, Woods Medical
facility, a small hospital, is located in Coxen Hole and air
ambulance service to the mainland or the US is available on the
island. Expect to pay about $10 for a doctor visit.
- A decompression chamber for divers is located at
nearby Anthony's Key Resort.
- What currency is used on Roatan?
- Currency is the Lempira @ approx. 18.9 to $1
(9/05). Dollars, lempiras, and credit cards are accepted at
most places but traveler's checks are not as widely accepted.
A number of banks give cash advances against major credit cards when
shown a Passport for identification.
- How safe am I on Roatan?
- Sundancer has full-time security.
- Island crime is
usually limited to petty theft but, remember you are in a poor
country, so don't wear expensive jewelry or carry large sums of money
unnecessarily.
- Where can I shop for groceries?
- The two primary island grocery stores where English
is spoken are Warren's in Coxen Hole and Eldon's (well stocked)
in French Harbor.
- What if we want to dine out?
- On-site is the Blue Parrot Restaurant which offers
a relaxed and friendly location to enjoy lunch, dinner or
drinks.
- Roatan has many restaurants, and meals are
typically less expensive than in the US. Restaurants with good
reputations are Half Moon Bay, Rick's American Cafe, Dian's
Delight, Argentinian Grill, Pura Vida, Eagle Ray, and Que
Tal.

- How do I get around? What is the cost?
- Taxi's are the primary mode of transportation. Negotiate taxi prices before getting in. Typically,
$4 per person is maximum and buses cost 50 cents per person.

- What about the famous Roatan SCUBA diving?
- There are numerous dive operators on the island. Many operate from the West End and one nearby we recommend is Bay
Islands Beach Resort.
- Diving and snorkeling are also good in
front of the cabana; the reef is a short swim.
- Typically, PADI open water courses of 4
day duration and four training dives, certification fees and a free
dive after certification will cost about
$220.

- What about those infamous tropical insects?
- Bring your favorite bug repellent and use
daily. Like most tropical islands, Roatan has sand flies
(no-see'ums) and an occasional
mosquito.
